06.10.2008 -
I want to talk about someone who has gone to the top of my list for many reasons. This guy blew me away.

While I was lining up at check-in at Montreal airport bound for Boston in the "coach" queue, I couldn't help thinking that that the two people in the business queue was me a couple of years ago. After an hour or so it was my turn to check in, and the girl asked why I hadn't used the other line. She then went on to explain my ticket had been upgraded to business. What kind of person would do that? On arrival in Boston, I find out my hotel has been upgraded to the Ritz Carlton. This made a welcome change after all the "jazz hotels" I had been staying in for two years. Who would do that? I am then driven to a rehearsal at the symphony hall where I am ushered to a dressing room to be shared by the other musicians. What I found surprising was that the main artist for the show was also sharing this one and didn't have one of his own. There were just basic supplies like coffee. What kind of artist would do that, and why? The other stars and their entourages arrived and were taken to their respective dressing rooms which were furnished with their needs.

Show day: Although I know my role for this show is to support the chosen songs by playing the right guitar parts, the artist proceeds to give me a huge introduction for the audience and cameras complimenting my career and abilities. What kind of artist would do that?

I am informed that for my flight back to France I would not be making the connection via Montreal but instead be upgraded to business class all the way home to France. Who would be responsible for this? During check-out of the Ritz I am preparing to pay my extras bill and the artist tells me to forget about the bill and insists on paying. This is unheard of.

I am talking about a man who thinks of others before himself and credits others for his successes. A man who personifies the true essence of humility. A true gentleman.

His name is Chris Botti.

(Thanks for everything Chris)
