21.11.2009 -
Hi there - I just arrived in Sao Paulo. I was traveling on Air France where they have these lovely seats that turn into a bed. After watching the movie I decided to have a good sleep. It was dark and everyone was sleeping so I pressed the recline button. Nothing seemed to be happening although I could hear the hydraulics in action. Either there was a subtle lower back massage thing going on or I had pressed the wrong button. I kept pressing to see if there would be any change. There was. The passenger next to me was raising as if out of a zombie movie. Poor guy was fast asleep and I managed to put him in the landing position. Next time I will check I am pressing the right button. He was quite bemused by it all but let it go while showing me which button to press.

One of the highlights of the last few months was certainly doing the "If on a Winter's Night" project with Sting in Durham Cathedral. I was secretly naming this the "Men in Tights" project due to the location, the folk music and because it isn't really rock & roll. We had quite a long rehearsal period followed by three concerts. There were SO many musicians involved, all from very different musical and geographical backgrounds. There was a great camaraderie or community feel to the proceedings which often transcended into a long jam session every night until the early hours, where everyone did their thing and were joined by others. After a while, and with some reluctance, I went into acceptance mode and became a part of it. I must admit at times it felt like I was in an episode of "Fame". If there had been any yellow taxis nearby they (ok, we) would have danced on them. On the last night Misty came to stay and she did three songs. Excuse me for boasting here, but she kind of blew everyone out of the water. If this had been an episode of "Idol" or X factor (God forbid) Simon would have said "...that was the best..." I felt a combination of embarrassment and pride. Go Mist!

My studio is ready to go and I am about to install all the gear. Having a detached studio in my own place is something I have always dreamt of. It's like I have a new easel and blank canvas. I have absolutely no ideas and I love not knowing what I will do next. I will be sure to keep you posted.

I am on Twitter now @dominicmiller1 which I find quite fun and creative. I tried Facebook but couldn't keep up with the pace. I will be posting there regularly, saying God knows what. You are all welcome to join me with my meanderings so we can stay in touch. However, I like doing these newsletters because it's fun to write and I feel like I know you. I will of course keep this up and write here more often, but they will be shorter like this one. This website will change very soon to reflect the feel of my new album "November". We will be hosting a competition to get some advance copies before its release. I am now thinking about some good questions for you.

Cheers,
