Review: from
Bridge Guitar Reviews by Henk te Veldhuis
Dominic Miller, guitarist of Sting and Neil Stacey made a wonderful
record together called New Dawn. Both all well-known guitarists and
with a great career. Both are composers and arrangers and play as well solo,
as in groups. What is great on this album, both players give another lots of
space, to improvise and interact with each other. The title track New
Dawn has typical influences of Dominic Miller's playing together with
Sting, together Neil and Dominic build unique imaginary soundscapes in a
wonderful atmosphere which is often made with a sound processor, these
effects create this excellent sound, which is intimate and reflecting. El
Fado a piece of Neil's shows the creative art of arranging and the
perfect balance in their playing. Rush Hour, a composition Dominic
first released on his first solo album First Touch which now is
rearranged by Neil and Dominic, Dominic plays these wonderful fast bass
lines on this unique theme, and Neil anticipates in his demanding technical
playing techniques. Promise is a real sedating piece and very serene,
the nice atmosphere they together create chills you out. Dominic also plays
Sting's Shape Of My Heart and like brothers they anticipate great on
each others way to communicate. The last track Friends portraits Neil
and Dominic's way of composing and their technical playing abilities in a
grooving piece. “New Dawn” is from the beginning to the last note a
capturing , meditative and moving guitar album. Great stuff.
New Dawn is a seamless
tapestry of superb guitar skills from Neil Stacey and Dominic Miller, who
have written all twelve tracks featuring original music for two guitars.
Dominic has played guitar with Sting’s band for 12
years. New Dawn is light and melodic, beautiful and reflective.
