The new album from
Dominic Miller. Officially released on September 1, 2006 the album can

about the story behind Fourth Wall check out the journal Dominic
kept during it's writing and recording
here.
From Gitarre und Bass (Germany)
Dominic Miller became known as
Sting's Guitarist. Apart from that he has refined numerous albums of
other artists, i.e. of Peter Gabriel or Manu Dibango, and he always
finds time again to bring out solo albums. His fourth release with the
matching title Fourth Wall (q-rious, release date 01.09) presents
calm and very atmospheric instrumental music; only a few times some
singing - or better: voices as a tone colour comes in. The mostly
plucked acoustic parts are accompanied by synthesizer fillings, some low
profile base and percussion. Miller plays very lyrical pieces, the
harmonies sometimes remind of his employer - and this maybe shows how
much he influences Sting's music. This man has got style, he absolutely
masters the acoustic guitar and impresses by the combination of
technical precision and musicality. For Miller it's all about sounds and
atmosphere.

From Bridge Guitar
Reviews
The
styles of music Dominic Miller represents are several, from classical to jazz, funk
and fusion, but he is not limited to one genre, and plays musical stuff
others do not dare to play. His music is based on emotion and he creates
extraordinary melancholic poetic landscapes in several engaging moods.
The guy is a genius and a virtuoso on any guitar. His approach to music
means a lot of passion, creativity, balance and structures in harmonic
improvisations. Recently I listened to Pat Metheny's new CD
One Quiet Night, and what I kept in mind was Miller's
same approach to music, based on skilful techniques but what one notices
is the purity in his pieces. He seems to be able to empty his mind
totally and then he paints music which goes beneath the surface of the
soul. Every one of Dominic's pieces has, as well, a superb balance,
structure and a lot of intimacy, which touches one deep inside. On some
pieces he uses a bass player and percussionist, as on Partido Alto,
where Pino Palladino and Miles Bould accompany him on bass and drums. On
Letter Unsent, Gus Isidore assists him on a steel
string guitar. On Denver Sun, Dominic is joined by
William Topley with touching vocals. The total album is a true
masterpiece. Dominic Miller has the ability to absorb a listener in 12
moving pieces performed with his rousing own touch.

From The Times
As part of Sting's band, guitarist Dominic Miller sometimes gets
overlooked. Even though the 40-year-old has the looks of a lean,
shaggy-haired, Strat-toting youngster, he seems to get a little taken
for granted in his role as guitar factotum. Nowhere was this more
apparent than in the recent string of Sting gigs at the Albert Hall in
which he was also accompanied by such jazz luminaries as keyboardist
Jason Rebello and trumpeter Chris Botti. Now Miller's second solo album
has arrived and it's time for him to take the spotlight. Second
Nature shows a very different side of this versatile Buenos
Aires-born musician. Although Miller may have spent years playing
rock'n'roll as a session player, his own music owes a huge debt to his
Brazilian heroes Antonio Carlos Jobim and Baden Powell, and as a result
the 12 songs here sing of South America - ringing, lyrical numbers
plucked and strummed by a guitarist who remains true to his roots. |

From Alternate Music Press
This album is one of the finest guitar-based albums that I've listened
to in a long time. First Touch is a finely detailed body of music
from this refreshingly inventive instrumentalist who among other things,
has worked with Nigel Kennedy, Sting, and Phil Collins, and won the
"guitarist of the year" award from the London Sunday Times in 1983. The
album is a challenge to classify, yet a delight to experience. Working
within an acoustic guitar setting, Miller achieves a rich quality of
guitar-based music that is both technically and emotionally satisfying.
The album highlights Miller's range both as a composer and performer. He
shifts effortlessly from the dramatic progressions of Do You Want Me
to the cyclic Faheyesque stylings of La Boca, to the warmth and
resonance of Eclipse and Looking For. The album is a real
tribute to the enduring character and irreplaceable sonic qualities of
acoustic instruments. The compositional style represented here is a real
marriage of harmony, rhythm and melody interlocking and becoming poetry
in motion. In summary it is both urbane and evocative, a melodic,
quietly enchanting body of work that is as touching as it is polished. |

Dominic latest album, Shapes,
showcases his smooth jazz guitar sound through a collection of new
interpretations of great classical works. The idea for the album was
literally a gift from Sting. He was given a book of Bach partitas and
sonatas during Sting's Brand New Day tour and became intrigued by
the songs.
In addition to the Bach pieces, Miller included Schubert's Ave Maria
(featuring Sting and Placido Domingo) and Albinoni's Adagio in G
Minor on the album. Also included is Shape Of My Heart, the
hit song Miller co-wrote with Sting for his multi-platinum Ten
Summoner's Tales album. Acclaimed smooth jazz trumpeter Chris Botti
is also featured on the album performing Bach Prelude No 3. |

By Naim Audio
New Dawn is a seamless tapestry of superb guitar skills from Neil
Stacey and Dominic Miller, who have written all twelve tracks featuring
original music for two guitars. Dominic has
played guitar with Stings band for 12 years.
New Dawn is light and melodic, beautiful and reflective.
From Jazzwise Magazine
"A panoramic tour of guitar techniques... quick fire unison sixteenth
note passages, percussive syncopations...subtle washes of guitar synth
which serve to underline the sudden appearance of a sun kissed melody
that would have had Jobim nodding in approval." |
